Pay Per Click- Insanity or What?

I will give you some "inside-baseball" this week on supplement businesses and their use of Google pay per click ads. Specifically, some crazy stuff I see going on behind the scenes.

Some of you know we have always used pay per click ads- that is how you found RelentlessImprovement to begin with. Come to think of it though, some of you also have no idea what the heck I am talking about. Regardless, I will explain so all can share in the learning fun.

We have become pretty smart in how we deploy our marketing dollars in this area, but some businesses methods leave me agog with incredulity. The biggest businesses are the ones most entertaining.

I will share what I mean later in the week.

Clean Up Your Act

Clean up your act, and enjoy every minute of it.

By now you know I love to publicize companies and products that I have had a great experience with and offer a superior value. The Olive Oil Soap sold in the Ahwahnee Hotel gift shop is awesome! I love this stuff. It comes in several scents and my faves are Almond and Clove, Spearmint and Lemongrass (Vanilla and Oats is great too).

Imagine yourself lathering up with a soap that is good for your skin, leaves you smelling fresh and energizes you with a zesty feeling. I have used it for several years and would not want to use anything else. This would make a great gift for the significant other in your life too.

Try some, and please let me know what you think. I find a bar lasts me about three weeks with twice a day use. It also works very well in lieu of shaving cream, so you can save a buck there.

As usual, I have no connection to the vendor, this one is concessionaire for the National Park Service.

Mito-GOLD R-Lipoic/R-Dihydro lipoic Acid. Blog Sale

Once in a blue moon blog special.

Been wanting to try Mito-GOLD but have been on the fence? This is your one-time shot to buy it on sale.

Mito-GOLD is 50% r-lipoic acid / 50% r-dihydro lipoic acid with Delta-Tocotrienol and optically pure Biotin in a MCT base and is presently the only stabilized "time-release" r-lipoic product in the world.

The "father" of r-lipoic research, Bruce Ames, received a patent to use a Delta-Tocotrienol formulation as a triglyceride and fat reducing substance ("...delta-T shows dose-dependent anti-adipogenesis activity...", "...delta-tocotrienol, can be used as a drug to reduce triglyceride accumulation...").

This is our flagship product and generates more positive email than any other item we offer. It is not cheap, and is worth every penny. Mito-GOLD's highly bioavalable ingredients can actually reverse enzyme and DNA oxidative damage.

Why Mito-GOLD?
  • It is a powerful antioxidant.
  • Promotes natural cellular ATP production, you feel energized, a rejuvenation effect.
  • Glycemic control- Improves your glucose intake and utilization.
  • Reverses insulin resistance (consult your Doctor).
  • Can actually reverse enzyme and DNA oxidative damage.
Mito-GOLD's ingredients regulate lipid and carbohydrate metabolism:
  • Reducing your appetite (decreases AMPK in the hypothalamus).
  • Decreasing your fat accumulation.
  • Increasing your lean muscle mass.
  • Lower your triglyceride levels, reduces your cardiovascular risk.
  • Modulates inflammation throughout your body.
Additional benefits:
  • R-Lipoic Acid is neuroprotective (protects your brain).
  • Chelates toxic heavy metals from your body.
Delta Tocotrienol
  • Is a super-potent antioxidant, the best of the Vitamin E family.
  • Increases endogenous (natural) production of CoQ10.
  • Exhibits anti-cancer effects.
According to the latest University of California SF research, antioxidants are critical to long and healthy life.

Read the research, grab a 3+ quantity discount and feel what the buzz is all about.

This is a very limited time sale and will end with no notice. Follow the links above to receive the special pricing.

Pyridoxamine- Not Again...Oh Yes.

How did I miss this article(link fixed!) about pyridoxamine? Learn everything you have been wanting to know about legalities, lawsuits, DSHEA and the FDA in regards to pyridoxamine.

Advanced Orthomolecular Research may be about to introduce to the US a new product. We have the info listed here, but do not currently stock it. Do you want it?

Sounds to me like BioStratum made a colossal mistake in trying to stop pyridoxamine from being sold as a nutritional supplement, as it has been for years.

RALA-Gel (100% R-Lipoic) on Sale. Can you believe it?

It's true, only $29.95. You know we never put GeroNova stabilized lipoics on sale so this is a genuine special opportunity.

RALA-Gel is a third generation, MCT transported r-lipoic acid. Stabilized against heat and stomach acid polymerization. Why use anything else?

Grab it and growl. Limited quantities.

Email Update 3

Our email server came back up last night, so with fingers crossed, I say we should now be good to go to send/receive email again.

While any downtime on any server is unacceptable, our host has handled this whole outage with consummate professionalism. The good news is they have had a trial by fire, discovered the weak spots in their network, and should be more dependable than ever before.

Here is the link to our web host- Verio. Read these status updates to get a feel how a serious business is run. Our previous web host ignored a service outage and made excuses. So we fired them.

You might be entertained to know our email, static website, shopping cart and blog are all on different servers. The shopping cart, on a secure, encrypted server has never went down and should always be available to you.

Life Extension Foundation Products

I want to reiterate we are an authorized, stocking LEF distributor. LEF's site is down again due to the hurricane. I would guess their shipping may also be impacted by the hurricane.

But we up and running and can ship your orders today.

Please see the LEF product page for a listing of what we carry.

Email Update

UPDATE- I have replied to all emails. If you did not receive a reply, please resend your email. As of 11AM PST, email is down again. Website remains up and fully capable of accepting orders.

Looks like our hosting company brought the email servers back up, as our mail box is full and we can now send again. They are warning there may be intermittent outages as the power situation stabilizes.

Thanks for your understanding and patience!

Hurricane Wilma, LEF Orders, Your Emails

The good news? RelentlessImprovement.com is up, running and serving you pages.

The bad news? Our email has been down for about 8-12 hours.

Why? Hurricane Wilma! But you say, Relentless Improvement is in California?

Our web and email hosting servers are in Boca Raton FL which is hit hard, millions of people are without power. The web servers are currently running on diesel generator back-up power (and may be for days), and the email servers, which are separate from the web servers, were proactively powered down to conserve what energy the server farm does have.

One of our suppliers web sites, Life Extension Foundation is down. LEF is located in Florida. If you want to order LEF product, as an authorised Life-Extension Distributor, we have product in stock, and are ready to ship to you.

Dedicated servers with triple redundant power and 100% uptime are astronomically expensive, but it drives me crazy when things are not running at peak efficiency to serve our Customers. We will make whatever changes are necessary to insure your ability to obtain products and contact us.

I marvel that the internet works at all given the variety of hardware and software that has to work in concert to bring you our ecommerce site. Non-technical people, as most of you are, have no idea of the symphony that I must conduct in order to provide you a fast, easy and well-designed purchase experience.

But that this how it should be. You should never have to see how the sausage is made in order to enjoy the smoky goodness :-)

Aubrey's Balls

Seems the anti-aging cause has reached the big time. If you define big-time as having a link on the Drudge Report. That is what happened today as Drudge linked to this fascinating story about Aubrey de Grey in The Journal of Higher Education.

Who the hell is Dr. de Grey? How do I feel about him?

Look to your right. See the little blinking cream and green bug?

The Methuselah Foundation/ Methuselah Mouse MPrize is the foundation mentioned in this article. Relentless Improvement has been a contributor and staunch supporter of the foundation. We also link to it on the "links" page of RelenlentlessImprovement.com (other good 3rd party links there too).

So, go read that article, get your exercise, eat right, sensibly employ premium-quality supplements and live long enough to live forever.

Oh yeah, the title of this blog post? ...

"There are people who say that if Aubrey says it must be right then it must be wrong." At the same time, despite his criticism, Mr. Finkelstein has some appreciation for Mr. de Grey's role as provocateur. "I like him," he says. "He ruffles feathers. He has the balls to say stuff."

Cheers!

Soggy Rolls

I am a Seth Godin fan. I believe in the philosophy of adding value to every step of our Customers purchase process. This post in his blog pretty much cuts to the chase.

You will never receive soggy rolls from us! (we don't sell rolls anyhow)

We want to offer you an exceptional experience. Your feedback says we are hitting the target. The sales growth says we are doing things very right. Conversion rates say you like the speed, quality and service we provide you.

But how do we raise the bar even higher? Please email and let me know.

Carnosine Eye Drops for Cataracts

We previously offered two products for use topically in the eye. Carno-See from VRP and Clear Eye Carnosine from AOR. The only difference is Carno-See contains added Vitamin A&E in the formulation.

We have since discontinued both products and now offer a fully tested, pharmaceutical quality 1% N-Acetyl-L-Carnosine eye drop in the Relentless Improvement brand.

3rd party testing is your ultimate assurance of quality and claimed acetyl-l-carnosine content.

In the US, we are forbidden by law from making health claims about our drops, but they are the same formulation (acetyl carnosine does the work) as that used in the research studies you have read.

Relentless Improvement is your home for the highest-qualtiy vitamins and supplements

Food For Thought

We are lucky here in the San Francisco area to have a variety of great places to eat. One of my favorites is Cafe Gratitude near the Mission area of downtown SF.

Have a look at this menu and see if perhaps it inspires you to try some new things with your cooking. Of course, if you are in the bay area let them do the cooking for you.

In our bulk processed, mass produced, run-around world, we often give short shrift to the basics of taking care of our bodies. Study after study recognize the benefits of good eating.

Your body was designed by nature to use lean meat, vegetables, nuts (NOT peanuts which are a legume!) as its fuel source. Sugars (any kind except xylitol) and flours in my opinion do far more harm than good.

Let today be a new day, let your mind rest for a few minutes on that menu. Find a place to eat with a vegetarian menu, or better yet a "live foods" menu. Try a week with no sugars or grain flours. See how you feel. Let me know what happens.

I bet you have a clearer head, more energy, fewer naps and a smaller waistline!

Onward Upward,
Pete

Good Design Is Timeless

Hopefully our Customers agree. Take a look and let me know what you think.

While every other supplement site is struggling to provide simple functionality, our goal was simple: leapfrog the entire industry via beautiful design. By definition, a great design will exhibit superior usability and functionality.

Dreaming it, and bringing it to life however are two different challenges. Most businesses today make decisions by meetings and committees. Great ideas get watered down, risk is quashed, the end result is adherence to a so called "industry standard".

Don't have that problem here- our goal was to push the technological envelope to its edge and we did not fear risk.

There are some tweaks to come. The Learn page is up, running, and looks great, but it will soon be home to a technically innovative method of allowing indexing and search. The Learn page will over the coming months and years become a repository of wisdom from some eminently qualified people.

In order to best add value for those that most appreciate it- our repeat, loyal Customers, we are looking at some kind of subscription or member type business model allowing access to this area of the site.

Always let us know how we can serve you better, and expect Relentless Improvement to provide Radical Innovation, Driven By Science And Design™

Cheers!

Christmas Eve

For the past several weeks I have been like an eight-year old on Christmas eve. Tomorrow is looking like the day.

But, it going to be a special day for You too... I hope you like the changes.

Great design is elusive, but well worth the effort.

:-)

Hey Turkey!

In our parking lot a few minutes ago- Thanksgiving dinner delivering itself early.

Just kidding! We don't harvest our wild visiting friends. We also have feral cats around here, wonder who would win that fight?

This has nothing to do with supplements, but hopefully puts a grin on your face!

Alzheimers and Dementia (pass on the valet parking).

This research from the Aging Research Center, Division of Geriatric Epidemiology in Sweden concludes that exercise is your friend.

"...if an individual adopts an active lifestyle in youth and at midlife, this may increase their probability of enjoying both physically and cognitively vital years later in life."

I hope this comes as no great surprise to anybody. The benefits of exercise are manifold and pay rich dividends throughout your life. Don't feel like you have to join a health club and buy skimpy shorts...
  • Take the stairs.
  • Park at the end of the parking lot.
  • Walk the neighborhood.
  • Use public transportation (which usually requires some walking).
  • Swim at the Y.
  • Play ball or ultimate frisbee.
The Healthy Living Pyramid's base is a good diet, followed by regular exercise, then supplements.

Cheers,
Pete

International Shipping Feedback

" I appreciate your reasonable shipping rates. Please keep an effort with these low shipping fees as it really makes a difference. (By comparison I recently made a similar sized order with XXX and it was $24 delivery for the same delivery schedule, and XXX's international shipping is so ludicrous I've never ordered from them!

Robert in the UK"

The Piracetam Kid Gives His Subjective Observations.

'Racetam enthusiast? Guilty as charged!

Had an interesting conversation today with a Customer regarding 'racetam use and effects. My business interest is happy Customers having reasonable expectations, so I try very hard not to "blow smoke".

I have been enjoying daily use of Ortho-Mind as a (hugely) cost effective foundation product. On top of that I add Piracetam 2400mg AM and PM, Aniracetam 1500mg mid-morning, Oxiracetam 1600mg mid-afternoon.

Stacking the racetams for daily use was a gradual process, and I really enjoy the synergistic results. Ah but what are the results you ask? Racetams effects vary widely by individual, I wouldn't dare claim you will obtain the same effects I do. But this much I am positive of- they make a difference, my performance is enhanced, I would hate to have to discontinue their use.

What I notice:
  • Creativity enhancement. No doubt. There is not enough time in the day to implement everything I think of.
  • Fluidity of speech, much less grasping for words. Fewer pauses. Clear, on the fly, discussion of concepts.
  • Music! I hear things on old CD's that I never noticed before. In fact, using headphones or a good stereo speaker set-up is now an awesome experience every time.
  • Driving- A feeling of hyper awareness of everything going on around me in traffic.
Did you know racetams have no known toxicity, and have been in use worldwide for decades?

Cheers,
Pete

GeroNova Research K-RALA® Powder / RLA-MCT25™ Powder- Kilo Quantities

We are not getting into the powder business.

We are however acting as GeroNova Research's retail distributor for K-RALA® powder and new RLA-MCT25™ R-Lipoic Acid sustained release powder in kilo quantities.

You will benefit in several ways:
  • You may purchase in kilo increments and the product will arrive in manufacturer sealed packaging (no counterfeit risk).
  • COA's are available.
  • You do not risk stale product.
  • You do not risk product that has been stored in hot or humid conditions.
  • You can save money on bulk purchases if you are so inclined.
The reason we do not offer other products in bulk powders is simply the liability risk. We would have to divide up the raw material, we would need a clean room and appropriate protection equipment (gloves, gowns, masks, hair nets). We would have no way of reasonable assuring you that what we claim is in the packaging is actually in the packaging.

All these problems are a non-issue with our new GeroNova manufacturer sealed packaging.

Available on our site now.

Our Networked, Artificial Intelligence Future?

One of our Customers wrote a piece several years ago that fits nicely with the new Kurzweil book, The Singularity is Near.

Grab a coffee, open your mind and see what you think about Danny's article titled:
Evolution and the Internet: Toward A Networked Humanity?

"Integration of human and machine will lead to an interconnected "organism"--the next major evolutionary step forward for humanity"

"This vision may seem horrifying to some, thrilling to others. It is the next major evolutionary step forward for humanity, and will eventually be taken. However we choose to view this scenario, the fact remains that this is the future toward which we are inevitably heading."

Great stuff, and well worth your time- enjoy!

The More You Know, the More Questions You Have.

Two articles I read today dovetail nicely, and reinforce what I learn every day- just when I think I have a clue of understanding things- BOOM.

For example, consider your vision. Your drive, you walk, you work, you play and in every interaction you use your vision. But what exactly do you see? Hmm, seems we do not know... Check out this article citing research by Duke University Medical Center:

"The basic problem, recognized for several centuries, is that the image on our retinas can't specify what's out there in the world," said Purves. "The light received by our retinal receptors tangles up illumination, reflectance, transmittance, size, distance and orientation," said Purves. "This means that there's no logical way to get back from the retinal image to what's actually out there in the world."

The second article takes a slighly "larger" view on things that we can and cannot see. Specifically:

"For years, some astronomers have known that there isn't enough visible matter in the present-day cosmos to explain the existence of gigantic objects such as "superclusters" of galaxies. Even over the 13-plus billion years of cosmic existence, gravity couldn't condense matter fast enough to explain such huge structures, computer models show.

So astrophysicists have long assumed the universe is pervaded by "cold dark matter," an invisible form of matter that supposedly hastens the condensation of visible matter."

Cold Dark Matter? Yikes!

The Hubble Ultra-Deep Field photos really blow me away. How can you not think of your life in the context of the Truly Big Picture?

If you are a logical, curious, person, you have to sit back and ponder the wonder of it all. What an awesome time to be alive, so much progress, so much to learn and explore.

Too Much Is Never Enough

"Hi Pete,

Just thought I'd drop a line and say hi. My competitive Ultimate (frisbee) season just drew to a close, and I feel compelled to tell you once again what a godsent R-Lipoic was for me. Over the past few years I've been having terrible swelling problems with my knees; after doctor probing, consulatation, rehabilitation, and anti-inflammatories I had simply resigned myself to slowing down and not playing as often/seriously (I travel around the country for tournaments all summer long with our season concluding in the fall). After trying R-Lipoic my knees are better than they have been in years! I won't say that I'm entirely problem free, but R-Lipoic has definately allowed me to recover faster and have a range of motion that I didn't think was possible anymore!

Again, I apologize if I'm gushing but I honestly have never had this kind of result with any other product/supplement. So, thanks again!

PS I'll definately be ordering again soon--you've spoiled me with your (extremely) fast delivery time, I know that even if I drag my feet, I can have an order in just a few days! :)"

Wow...

Friday Customer Feedback

"To Pete and the rest of the team:

Amazing service. I put in an order over the internet at about 2:30 Thursday afternoon (PDT). Not only do you ship the same day and send me this confirming e-mail (below), but the package is delivered the very next day, i.e., today, Friday. And, it is accompanied by a nice thank you card signed by Pete. Thank you.

I discovered your web site Wednesday while I was trying to get to the bottom of the ALA (alpha-lipoic acid) story. In the course of this investigation, I had learned about and been impressed by the work GeroNova is doing. After finding your site as a supplier of their products, I realized that you demonstrated a high level of commitment to finding out what really works and why and sharing this information with your actual and potential customers.

One avenue is the blog, and I went through all entries and chased down quite a few of the leads suggested by it. It is clear that you all are working very hard to get on top of the corner of the supplement world you're interested in, and I appreciate the work and the integrity you bring to it. So here's another thank you."

Pete note- this is the sort of feedback that keeps us working nights and weekends to add more value to our Customers interaction with Relentless Improvement.

Wait until you see what is coming next week... there is the merest hint on our store.

Hallo Deutsche Kunden

Anfeuerungen!

Customer Feedback

"Pete -

I just wanted to say "thank you" for your quick fulfillment of my
order! I placed my order on Monday and received it today - very
impressive. Your thank you card and helpfulness on the phone were also appreciated.

I do appreciate your approach to business - it is refreshing to deal with someone who is both professional and courteous.

Matt S."

Thanks Matt! We appreciate the feedback- it drives us to discover additional ways to build even more value into your experience with Relentless Improvement.

Grapefruit Juice- Hidden Killer!

Ok, so I went for an over the top title. Seriously- this new peer-reviewed report looks at how certain fruits and vegatables can affect pharmacokinetics.

A quote from the article-

"As little as 6.0 oz of grapefruit juice may lower the amount of a drug needed to produce the desired effect, which could cause an overdose. The blood that absorbs nutrients passes through the liver before reaching the general circulatory system (the first-pass). The ability of a drug to successfully pass from the GI tract to the plasma is called its bioavailability. Grapefruit juice inhibits first-pass drug metabolism, increasing bioavailability."

I remember reading something about grapefruit juice years ago, this provides a lot more info.

Pete

(Obvious?) Clues to Shop By

I like to check out various product keywords to see who and what is being advertised on the pay per click ads. What I find is usually entertaining and appalling at the same time.

As you shop the net for supplements see the if the web site uses the word "Miracle" or uses any "Featured on TV!" references. If so, exercise your better judgment and move on, because you are being pitched.

Contrast that approach to one that instead makes use of referenced scientific/university studies that have been published in peer reviewed journals.

Which products do you think are more likely to be truly effective?

The marketers prey on your willingness to suspend disbelief, and are selling you the sizzle, not the steak. Some things never change- if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

A Small World

This is one of those spectacular Northern California days. The air is clear and crisp and gives you a little extra kick to your step. Our offices look out onto rolling golden hills, and believe it or not- a vineyard!

Everybody knows Napa now produces world class wines, but Livermore (where we are) also has about 15 (?) wineries, offering some very good product.

You all know I love to pick up the phone and talk to my Customers. You tell me the towns and state and countries you live in and I think of what your life might be like where you live.

I have been to nearly every state except the far north east, so the imagination is pretty easy. As I strive to add many of the special touches that Relentless Improvement is known for, who you are, what you do, and what your life is like are key considerations.

Ever visited a web site or had contact with a company and received an impression of who the center of their world was? I have- and the answer is usually themselves! Ha!

If the owners of other businesses are "too busy" to answer the phone to talk to you, what exactly is more important?

Hmmmm...

Kombucha, Freebies, Blog Readers Special

Blog readers special- I put UNI Piracetam on special sale for only $12.95 ea when you buy 4. Just click that link above. This new article describes Piracetam as an "alzheimers" drug but I use it daily for neuroprotection and cognitive enhancement. Grab it and growl!

New Ray Kurzweil Article

The San Francisco Chronicle has this interesting article. He is a quote:

""The Singularity" argues that technology is a continuation of the life-improvement process commonly called evolution. DNA created biological life forms. Biological life forms advanced over eons and developed Homo sapiens. Their big brains and opposing thumbs and forefingers made them adept toolmakers. Today their cutting-edge tools -- computers, software, gene-splicing techniques and nanotechnology -- are poised for integration with human biological systems to evolve a hybrid life form."

We all have a copy (or two) of his last book Fantastic Voyage on our shelves right?

Enjoy.

Are You A Dumpster Diner?

Buckle up and grab a coffee, because I am going present some interesting facts, opinion and perspective.

First, Housekeeping:

If you post (anywhere in public) as fact (but you have no proof), information about a specific company that can be interpreted by the average person as negative, you have quite likely opened yourself up to a libel and defamation lawsuit. A computer offers you no anonymity, as server records can easily be subpoenaed to document your identity and location.

More information on libel and slander can be found at this link.

If accused of libel, your only sure defense is your ability to prove what you claimed as fact was true. If you cannot do that, you will likely be sued for damages. Relentless Improvement will vigorously pursue and bring action against any individual or business making baseless defamatory comments.

Comparing various business models is certainly fair game. Post lies and you have crossed the line.

Second: Some thoughts on value:

Want to save money? Want to eat your fill at no charge? Sure!

1. Ok- go out the back door, walk to the nearest dumpster and dig in pal! A veritable feast awaits you and it won't cost you a dime.
2. Self serve, and no delivery!

Great Value?
Or Low Price?
You Decide!

Got a hankerin' for that same meal but with less nausea factor? Might want to spend some cash at the local diner to:

1. Improve (but not ensure) your quality.
2. Have more pleasant surroundings (a view of the freeway not the alley).
3. Get a better presentation (but not awesome).
4. Make it more nutritious (maybe, did you order the fried food?).
5. However- The waitress smells of beer, and looks hung-over. The cook has visible dandruff.
6. And the cashier disappears for a few minutes with your credit card (hmm, wonder why?).

Great Value?
Or Low Price?
You Decide!

Perhaps you feel you deserve to be treated like a King (or Queen)?

1. You seek a truly unique experience, with well designed surroundings.
2. You are offered valet parking coming and going.
3. Your spirit is warmed by the lovely tablecloths, silverware, and art on the walls.
4. You want assurances of quality. Who wants to wind up with stomach flu?
5. You hear others rave about the experience.
6. You have confidence the waiter won't steal your credit card info.
7. You have better things to do with your time than sit at home for hours preparing meals.

Great Value?
Or Low Price?
You Decide!

If you are perceptive at all, you can understand where I am going with this and the point I am making. You seek an experience that fits your wants and needs. You also know that if you are the winner in the "Race to the Bottom", a dumpster dinner probably awaits you.

There is no free lunch, and no matter how "entitled" you may feel, the quality of your experiences are usually directly correlated to the cost. This fact is as old as man himself.

Third: Value Innovation

We have so many cool things going on behind the scenes, I cannot wait for you to see them. As might be expected with a market leader like Relentless Improvement, other business might try to copy our business model. But as copycats, they will fail because they are not innovators.

The supplement world is 95% me-too copycats, look alike web sites, and yesterdays thinking. Does that make you think, "yeah, so true!"?

Those businesses that have a vision and support their community, that think constantly about how to add quality and value to the Customer experience, always seeking innovative and cutting edge products and suppliers, those businesses have a bright future.

Those that only understand one thing, undercutting prices, deserve the dumpster divers they will attract.

Cheers!
Pete
