K-RALA powder from GeroNova. Capped and bottled. Now Available.

GeroNova K-RALA capsules in GeroNova bottles.

Check it out at this link.

Many issues currently with R-Lipoic and quality. One of those is the availability of bulk powders and their uncertain composition and purity. It is a common misperception that a stable salt form of R-lipoic acid can be created by simply mixing a few ingredients. Not true. The new crystalline molecular structure necessary for stability and bioavailability is not created, and consumers wind up with a useless (or worse) substance.

For those who desire to not take on the risk of the unknown, you can assure yourselves of top quality supplied by the only USA manufacturer of R-Lipoic Acid.

The web page is up, product is in stock, and best of all I managed to work out a July introductory special. 90 capsules x 100mg of R-lipoic with 150mcg of optically pure D-Biotin for only $21.95 or buy 5 or more for only $20 a bottle and get free S&H. Compare to other brands with only 60 capsules per bottle. Why risk loose powders or unknown suppliers of this valuable supplement?

Cool Stuff!

More About D3 and Anti-Cancer (Prostate)

I posted a few weeks ago about new Harvard University research regarding the anti-cancer properties of vitamin D.

This new research says
"Apparently exposure to the sun encourages the body to produce vitamin D, which is known to inhibit the growth of prostate cells."

However:
"She (Dr. Esther John, the lead author on the study) says that as the effects from supplements and sun exposure on vitamin D levels in the blood are equal, supplements would be a safer."

Both Ortho-Core and Essential Mix from Advanced Orthomolecular Research provide the proper form of Vitamin D in the perfect dose. These foundational supplements are designed for every-day lifetime use to insure we receive optimum levels or critical vitamins, minerals and phyto nutrients.

I use Ortho-Core daily and have never felt better in my life.

Die For A Few Hours

Every day I am amazed at scientific breakthroughs. This article, dramatically titled "Boffins create zombie dogs", is about dogs having their blood removed and replaced with a saline solution, declared clinically dead, and revived with full function after 3 hours!

Yikes.

It was only recently that I learned our memories are stored in our brains physically, not electrically, hence the theoretical ability to be revived after being declared "clinically dead" if decay and cellular damage is not allowed.

My new favorite anecdote is "Live long enough to live forever" the upshot being take care of your body enough so that when breakthroughs do occur, we are alive to benefit from them.

Anti-aging / Anti-oxidant substances will be key to keeping in good shape

What a wonderful time to be alive!

How to Juggle Taking a Variety of Supplements Throughout the Day

I take several supplements throughout the day, some need to be taken at certain times to maximise bioavailability. Also, different ingredients can compete with the same receptors in the body, and we don't want that.

This week I talked to several women juggling Ortho-Bone, K2 menatetrenone, and Strontium in order to fight bone loss. These must be taken at certain times of the day for greatest benefit.

Don't complain that this is too hard to do, it isn't. Simply drive to Wal-Mart, Target or other store and buy a plastic fishing lure box. These are available with movable internal dividers to suit your individual need. Cost- about $2-$6.

I use two, which carries me through about two weeks. I simply line up my supps, divide them out by day into the compartments of the plastic lure box, and boom I am good to go. This takes me all of about 10-15 minutes.

Some of you have a better way and I would love to hear your little trick- shoot me an email and let me know so I can share.

If our suppliers didn't have to use multi-capsule dosing they wouldn't! It is more weight, bigger containers, and they know we don't care for it. But, if taking 10 capsules per day results in positive benefits, and a different formulation at 5 pills per day does not, what do we need to do? Keep things in perspective, and always consider efficacy first!

AMA Blasts Supplement Packaging

This Yahoo! story says-

"The herbal packaging policy, approved Tuesday by the AMA House of Delegates, directs AMA leadership to urge Congress to modify the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act to require those promoting herbal remedies to prove their efficacy and safety and to force the herbal remedies to list product ingredients on packages."

AMA being the American Medical Association.

Guess what? I am in total agreement with that statement!

In fact, if you have been a regular reader of my blog you will find many posts by me railing against the scammers, snake-oil sites and outright lies that are passed off in the name chasing a buck. If you take any supplement that does not fully disclose:
1. The ingredients
2. Doses of those ingredients
There is a excellent chance you are being ripped off.

We never have, and never will, offer any product without full and total disclosure of BOTH ingredients and dose.

But we go much further than that- by offering you referenced research of efficacy for nearly 100% of our products! Only Relentless Improvement™ goes to that degree of disclosure to inform you. Look at the bottom of each product page on our site, those numbered items are the references of efficacy from scientific literature.

It would be hard to imagine more objectivity and helpfulness in the information that we provide you to make your buying decision.

The article also says:
"packaging of some herbal remedies is confusing and gives the impression that the supplements are pharmaceutical products."

Again, I totally agree, HOWEVER, I do have the right to note my high quality line-up of suppliers and products as "Pharmaceutical Quality" to differentiate from the grocery store quality supplements. There is a quality difference, and Relentless Improvement™ is dedicated to delivering it to our Customers.

Pharmaceuticals- no, Pharmaceutical quality- yes.

Effective? Oh yes.

It's The Relentless Difference™, why settle for anything less?

Central Serous Retinopathy- My Story

A few weeks ago I noticed in one eye it seemed like I had looked into a bright light. You know how that feels. Then, I noticed a blurriness and this weird circular spot in the center of my vison in that eye. Well, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, and quickly realized there was a problem.

A bit of research on the net yielded a cool test called an Amsler Grid which confirmed my concern. My left eye viewed the grid as if it were a net with a ball in the middle! Yikes.

A quick trip to the local eye doc revealed that indeed there was a retina problem, and I was referred to a retinal specialist. There, they did a huge range of tests culminating in a fluorescein angiography, shooting me up with dye as they took pictures of both retinas. Very cool side-effect of this procedure- I urinated fluorescent yellow for two days! Very trippy.

Anyhow, the diagnosis was confirmed as Central Serous Retinopathy which had left a "water mark" on my retina causing what my doc said would be some degree of permanent vision loss. No treatment, laser would not be helpful.

I am using one of my products- Clear Eye Carnosine eye drops , which have documented efficacy for cataracts and macular degeneration, to see if it will provide beneficial effect. This product contains N-Acetyl-L-Carnosine as a therapeutic supplement. As my baseline is well documented, I will be able to quantify its effects in my three month follow-up visit.

No secret to my readers, I use Ortho-Core daily, and the anti-oxidants, Alpha/Beta-carotene and lutein in it should also be beneficial for my vision.

So the good news is I am alive and feel like a 20 year old, and one eye has 20/15 vision. The bad news- crap happens, and sometimes you have no clue when and where it will strike. The lesson? There isn't one. Just do your best to follow your dream wherever it may lead you, and keep reaching for better health!

Anti-Oxidants, Exercise... and Cancer?

This is a provocative post from Dr. Mercola's site. I find him a great read and an advocate of self-help via a good diet, exercise and lower stress. In his opinion:

"Exercise is absolutely necessary for high-level wellness, but if you exercise too much it is clearly harmful and cancer seems to be a possible adverse outcome. My guess is that one's antioxidant threshold is exceeded or micronutrients are consumed at a level that cannot be easily replaced"

I too agree with the latest research indicating that heavy exercise results in a pro-oxidative state in the body- when I exercise I always supplement with r-lipoic acid before and after. I believe r-lipoic is one of the most potent and effective anti-oxidants available, and that you cannot take too much. We offer a liquid that is perfect to add to your water bottle, or like I do, just take a capsule before/after exercise.

Beware unstabilized lipoics. Testing has shown that some offer no bioavailability at all. Is that a risk you want to take?

Bi-Polar, Lithium, Lithium Orotate, Life-Extension

Interesting article about Bi-Polar Disorder. The article says-

"The incidence of bipolar disorder in the general population is considerably higher than earlier studies have indicated"

and

"One approach that may make sense... is a lithium-based treatment" commented Ellen Frank, Ph.D., professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine."

Many people have no idea that a form of Lithium, Lithium Orotate is available without a prescription.

In a related note, new research has led some to believe that Lithium Orotate also has life-extension properties, hence its inclusion in certain supplements.

Research has also shown interesting results from a pure, pharmaceutical quality EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), read more here.

Good Enough? Hell No! "A Relentless Search for Better"

Do you ever read Seth Godin? I do. This post from him got me to thinking about what I am doing. Read it, and come right back...

Are the supplements that you take "good enough" ?
Is the form of the ingredient or the brand "good enough" ?
Is your daily regimen "good enough" ?
Is the research "good enough" ?
Is the science "good enough" ?
Is the bioavailability "good enough" ?
Are you buying something for a few bucks cheaper because it's "good enough" ?
Why would anyone believe they are not worthy of the very best?

My personal curse (and for you, my Customer, a blessing!) is that nothing is ever "good enough". I am driven from the depths of my psyche to seek better, faster, more effective, more potent, more bioavailable, safer, and dare I say- more aesthetically pleasing?

Are you using some form of a supplement just because it is good enough and not reaching to improve?

GeroNova Research isn't
AOR isn't
Relentless Improvement isn't

Change is good.
Searching for better is good.
Making the switch for carefully considered reasons is good.
Because of this blog and my site, "better is showing up". We are not big. We are however, the best, and getting better.

I am always here for you if you want to discuss how you can feel better, faster, stronger, younger.

Thank you my Customers for your confidence and your business.

Happy Weekend!

DHEA, Supplement Business Under Attack, Again

If you are reading this you have a vested interest in clicking this link.

On May 26, Rep Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) submitted a bill that would ban DHEA.

More laws are being crafted with potential to curtail your access to safe, legal, effective supplements. Most of you have figured out by now that Relentless Improvement is the antidote to snake-oil supplements sites. There are laws already on the books to deal with these charlatans.

But, big pharma has a huge interest in seeing the US supplement industry come under their control. Did you know the US is actually pretty unique in the world, in that a lot of safe products are over-the-counter here that are prescription in the rest of the world.

For example, K2 menetetrenone, ALCAR, Lithium Orotate, on and on. Even Ortho-Core is "officially" legal only in the US!

So, the site above makes it OH SO EASY to figure out who your reps are (so easy- by zip code!) craft an email or letter, it adds all the addressing info, feeds it to your printer (!). All you have to do is put it in an envelope and stamp it.

I crafted my letter and sent it to George Bush, Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, and Representative Richard Pombo. Let's not lose any more freedoms, do your part NOW.

This is what I wrote:

"The President?The White House?1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW?Washington, DC 20500

Re: Please Keep our Supplements Legal

Dear Mr. President:

It seems the supplement industry is under attack.

As a user, and retailer of pharmaceutical quality supplements proven effective in randomized double blind human studies, I have a vested interest in keeping safe supplements freely available.

The latest bill is attacking DHEA, which is proven to be an important supplement to those of us over 40. We want to safely maintain a healthy, youthful vigor and this is one of many supplements that helps us do that.

I own and operate an internet supplement business- RelentlessImprovement.com based in Dublin, CA in the SF Bay area. I pride myself on only representing brands of the highest integrity and quality.

Trying to regulate safe and effective supplements only serves to enrich big pharma at the expense of consumers.

Thank you for your time on this most important issue to all of us. I am always available if you have any questions."

I am no wordsmith, but I hope I made my point in respectable fashion. Your turn now.

A Prize for You! (The MPrize)

The prize will be a longer, healthier life and we will all be winners! Let me quote from their site:

"The Methuselah Mouse Prize is the premiere effort of The Methuselah Foundation; a scientific competition designed to draw attention to the ability of new technologies to slow and even reverse the damage of the aging process, preserving health and wisdom in a world that sorely needs it"

Remember the Ansari X Prize? That provided added impetus for Burt Rutan's rocket development and subsequent foray into space. The first private, manned spaceflight.

The MPrize is far more profound in its implications for mankind.

Go to the site, read a bit, open your mind to possibilities that you may not have considered before. It is wonderful stuff, the people involved are committed to the cause, and they offer that rarest of attributes nowadays -INTEGRITY.

Relentless Improvement is quite thrilled to support their (our!) cause as a sponsor and contributor. Why not show your support and donate?

Go here to do so.

A Primer in Copyright Law in the Digital Age

Some people think the internet is the wild west. Not true. Here is a great primer on copyright protection as it applies to our modern age.

The take-away from the article is this passage:

"Litigation is expensive. People concerned about, say, the nuances of fair use must not become so entangled in legal details that they forget that anything generating income or interfering with another's potential income dramatically increases the chance of suit.

The most compelling questions are: (1) Is a proposed use of another's work likely to offend, and (2) Are expected benefits worth the bother and possible cost to resolve a dispute?

Why not ask? Only if the owner says "no" does the second question need to be addressed."

Sage counsel.

Here is the deal, this blog is not a hobby for me, although I do enjoy it immensely. This blog is an extension of my business. I expend a great deal of time, effort and money to locate, edit and create content for YOU, my reader. If the fruits of my work result in value to you, please give credit where credit is due.

I welcome a link to a relevant blog post on your site. If you want to copy certain content to your site, just email me! If you are respectful enough to ask, chances are really good I will give you permission. Hell, I probably want to link to your site and give YOU more traffic and publicity!

If however you chose to quote my work without an attribution link or steal a copyrighted graphic, the laws are quite clear, you are committing a felony.

Red Tide, Ciguateria Toxicity- A Solution?

This red tide disaster article reminds me of something-

A number of my Customers swear by Advanced Orthomolecular Research EPA Brite product for relief of brain fog produced by several neuro-toxins such as from Red Tide and Ciguateria.

EPA is a pharmaceutical grade eicosapentaenoic acid. Read the research on the site, mixed DHA and EPA supplements will not work.

Protandim (redux)

Mito-GOLD used and recommended by physicians (but in very short supply), offers full disclosure of ingredients and doses on the label... But Protandim does not disclose dose of the individual ingredients.

Don't you think that is risky? After all, you do swallow this substance.

When your Doctor prescribes you medication, it comes in different doses right? Do you want to take just any dose of your heart medication? Kinda matters doesn't it?

Then again, if the substance in question is not effective or bioavailable it would not matter would it? Makes me go "Hmmmm".

The 60 capsule Mito-GOLD bottle is twice the size of protandim.

Advanced Orthomolecular Research is a another prime example of a company bending over backwards to provide you with ingredient dose information. Look at what they do with Ortho-Core longevity formula, it is a two sided label! All the information that you need to make an informed decision won't fit on just the front of the label. Check it out:

Label Front

Grab the tab and peel it back-

Voila' a proud disclosure of dose-

Ok, enough of this foolishness. Don't be suckered my friends. Choose substance over hype.

Avoid Eating Yeast, Live Longer?

The current, most accepted, way to increase life span is CR, Caloric Restriction (eating less). A tough regimen for some of us to follow- I am a "foodie", I live in the foodie capitol of the US, San Francisco. It also has some drawbacks- anecdotal reports indicate CR affects libido negatively.

The upshot of this article is that reduction of a specific diet component (yeast) rather than overall calorie restriction resulted in a longer life span (in fruitflies).

"Professor Linda Partridge said: "Altogether these results make a strong case that calories per se are not the salient factor in prolonging life-at least in fruitflies. The dramatic impact of reducing yeast suggests that protein or fat plays a greater role in fly longevity than sugar. This suggests that yeast and sugar trigger different metabolic pathways with different effects on life span"

More From the American Aging Association Meeting

One thing I learned- there is no shortage of disagreement on any given view. Keep in mind the folks here were all at least PhD's, and most of them working on the very bleeding edge of research. Another surprise, just how little is known about the aging process. I am sure the majority of physicians are fine, hard working people, but they simply cannot keep up with all the latest breakthroughs. The goods news it that a wide variety of things are being looked at in the anti-aging field.

Let me point out that this conference lasts 4 (FOUR) days! 7 AM-6/9PM. Wow!

I was able to meet more of the GeroNova team, and am even more impressed than before, if that is possible. One is a PhD specializing in cell biology, another is a PhD analytical chemist and plasma analysis/HPLC specialist, and both specialize in anti aging and bioscience technologies. The fact that GeroNova attended this conference as a sponsor, and made themselves available for discussion on their proprietary R-lipoic acids speaks volumes to the market leading nature of their business. When you, as a business, put yourself in that kind of position, you damn well better have science behind your products!

I will post links to some never before seen R+ plasma level charts in the next few days. Results and courtesy of GeroNova. Prepare to be shocked.

Another interesting tidbit, lots of people are blueberry believers. Yup, if you follow nutrition and anti-oxidant research at all, you already knew blueberries were good for you. Mother natures way of helping you stay younger.

American Aging Assoc./Amer. College of Clinical Gerontology Meeting

Much more tomorrow but here are some high points. I had an AWESOME time today at the annual joint meeting of the American Aging Association and American College of Clinical Gerontology at the Marriott in Oakland CA. It was attended by essentially the majority of specialist researchers in the US, and probably the world that focus on anti-aging therapies.

Big thanks go out to Karyn and David at GeroNova for the invite to hang out with them. GeroNova was one of only five sponsors, and the only "supplement" sponsor invited to attend. I would point out that the main sponsor was non other than the Ellison Medical Foundation. Yes. THAT Ellison, Larry Ellison.

It was an incredible learning experience. Got to meet many noted people including one of the formulation wizards from AOR (know to some as AORSupport) and saw but did not have a chance to meet, Aubrey DeGrey.

More tomorrow.

Augmentation

Ha! Gotcha.

No....

BRAIN Augmentation.

Have you ever considered a job interview? Performance in daily tasks? Conversation with friends and other people that might notice a...

difference?

You know, tomorrow is here. You can improve cognition, memory, recall, mental agility and ability to learn. You can reverse forgetfulness and "senior moments". You can make it easier to find the car keys. Compose that sentence. Why would you not want to?

See, this is such a new area, you may not realize how you can augment yourself. This is a subject I am going to shed a lot of keystrokes on over the next few weeks in this blog. Because you can be a better you.

Many calls lately from folks in their 50-80's seeking support or reversal of age-related memory loss or cognitive decline. The current state of the art is quite simple and easy- Ortho-Mind from Advanced Orthomolecular Research in Calgary Alberta Canada.

Is the next person going into that job interview augmented? Is your research partner augmented? Is your, heaven forbid, business competitor augmented?

Fatty Acids Really are Brain Food- New Research

This article is good stuff. Take your healthy oils!

"The scientists have now discovered that the brain protein syntaxin acts as a tiny sensor of the fatty molecules. They act to unlock syntaxin, which then becomes activated and forms a switch for increased neuronal communication."

"Dr Davletov said, “This discovery underlines the necessity of carrying out molecular scientific research, which as well as being valuable in its own right, can potentially lead to important public health applications."

One more reason to use products from AOR -Advanced Orthomolecular Research

Their EPA product is an oil targeted for mood support, research shows efficacy in depression and bi-polar, and I have customers using it for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Ciguatera toxicity.

The DHA product offers cardiovascular benefits.

Life Extension brand offeres an EPA/DHA combo with sesame lignans for added bioavailability, and olive fruit extract.

Regardless which product you choose, all are pharmaceutical quality for purity and greatest possible beneficial effect. Grocery store or mass merchant quality varies widely and may actully put you at risk of heavy metal toxicity. Who needs that?
